Beacon is an accessible career mentorship platform designed to support individuals who were formerly incarcerated as they rebuild their lives and pursue meaningful careers. The platform connects them with professionals and mentors, providing opportunities to share ideas, build connections, and receive valuable career and life guidance as they transition back into society.

Formerly incarcerated individuals face significant challenges in accessing resources and opportunities to overcome employment barriers and rebuild their lives. Despite the critical need, there are very few products or platforms specifically designed to support their reintegration into the workforce. This lack of tailored solutions leaves many struggling to navigate a system that often feels inaccessible and overwhelming.
I designed a platform with an approachable and friendly look, ensuring it was well-labeled and easy to navigate, particularly for individuals who may not be tech-savvy. The user interface was intentionally kept simple, focusing on clarity and accessibility to ensure a seamless experience for all users.

I enjoyed working on Beacon a lot because of what the platform stands for and does. I was able to put the needs of the users front and center and design for the demographic the product is supposed to serve.
Using very bold colors, high contrast and well labeled buttons and pages should help people that are not very tech savvy (because of how long they have spent away from technology in prison) navigate and use our product very easily.
Beacon will be handed over to developers and it’s performance will be monitored over the next few months to make sure it serves the purpose that it was created for. It is very important to conduct usability tests after launch so any bottlenecks that may have been missed pre-launch can be addressed.
