Modern restaurants often struggle to streamline their ordering processes while offering customers convenience and value. Users need a solution that allows them to schedule orders, place pickup orders seamlessly, and save money through rewards or discounts.
I conducted interviews, surveys, competitive audit and online research to develop an understanding of user pain points when using similar products. 94% of the survey participants are regular users of food ordering apps and they stated that having the option to place scheduled orders is something they would love to have. 60% of the interview participants stated that they would use the in app currency system as they really need to minimize how much they spend on meals daily.
COMPETITIVE AUDIT

Provide more language and accessibility options.

Provide a way to schedule orders consistently.

Improve interaction and overall design.
KEY RESEARCH INSIGHTS

Most users prefer a shorter ordering process

Most users had trouble keeping up with what page they were on

The app currency feature is not very obvious for some users

THE SOLUTION
After days of iterating and experimenting with various concepts, a clear solution began to take shape. Leveraging Figma, I designed the UI, developed interactive prototypes, and refined the interaction design to create a cohesive and user-friendly experience. This process ensured the solution was both visually appealing and functionally effective.

CLOSING
Priority was given to user experience and I designed a straightforward product with as little visual clutter as possible. Hayai’s final design is a result of research, insights, design thinking, and iterations.
Communication: I found that communication is arguably the most important part of designing a product that serves the need of it’s users. I had a few features at the beginning of this project that I thought would be utilized and understood by users but after testing, asking questions and leaving my biases out of it, I was able to better understand the needs of the users and design for that.
Design: The importance of a design system cannot be overemphasized! I save so much time and was able to effect changes to the design without wasting too much time because I had a design system applied to the entire project that lets me make changes from one component to all it’s variants.
